Six Examples of Black Bathrooms To Inspire You for 2018

Six Examples of Black Bathrooms To Inspire You for 2018

When you are designing your dream bathroom, most often you will consider neutral hues as your design choice because they complement the white in most bathrooms. But, if you are looking for an alternative to the norm and want to make a statement with your bathroom design, you should consider dark walls, tiles, vanities or a combo of all.

A popular new trend for 2018 is dark hues for your home and a simple paint job can give any room a cozy boost including your bathroom. Take a look at five examples of dark and lovely MyHome bathroom design to inspire you to go bold.

Example #1: Go Grand With Dark Colors
Dark colors work well in many homes, but work best in period properties. The secret to keeping this space crisp and sharp is to contrast the dark with white embellishments as seen in this bathroom.

Example #2: Mix Up Your Materials
There are a number of different dark hue finishes that keep the bathroom design from feeling flat. The white accents add a crisp and sharpness to the design without feeling overly edgy. Without the 54×54 Alcove corner tub and the Kauri La Fabrica floor tiles in Victoria finish, the vibe would be altogether different in the bathroom pictured.

Example #3: Tie Two Patterns Together
A solid color can help two conflicting designs work together well. The black floor and shower tile would lose its design effect if placed side by side. Using a black and white design can be masculine at first glance, but with the white and some added feminine touches, your design will stand out for a unisex modern and cozy feel.

Example #4: Embrace Natural Hues
In your design, embrace natural hues such as dark browns and taupe. A wood vanity and medicine cabinet with plain edge doors gives an entirely different effect than a black vanity. In this bathroom, they used natural hues for the medicine cabinet, vanity and shower design for a natural feel. The side lights also give this peaceful oasis a spa-like feel. Lastly, the feature wall in the shower brings the whole design together beautifully.

Example #5: Go Matte or Glossy
When designing your dark hued bathroom you can choose to go matte or gloss. Notice that little line of sparkle all around the accent mirror in the wall? It stands out alongside the matte wall tiles and the dark grey functions as a strong backdrop for this statement wall.

You can also choose a glossy finish, however this effect would be interpreted as showy and not subtle. The stylish lighting on top of the mirror adds to the soft glamour of this glossy space. If you look closely, you’ll see that the tiles shine reflects off the wall tiles, but also on the fitted mirror which helps brighten your bathroom by bouncing light around the space. Black gives any bathroom a bit of edge, but you don’t want so much edge that it’s not good for family life.

You can use dark hues to give your bathroom a cozy, bold and modern feel. Be inspired by these six examples as you consider your 2018 bathroom redesign.

Three Examples to Inspire Your Tub to Shower Conversion

The fast pace of life in DMV means most of us don’t have the time to sit and soak in a tub. So, it’s no surprise that a tub to shower conversion has become a hot trend in 2018.  One of the most popular requests we get from our clients in Maryland, Virginia and DC is transforming their unused tubs into a luxurious shower.
To tub or not to tub? This is a question most clients face when designing their bathroom renovations.  In addition to its convenience, switching out your tub to a shower will lower cost compared to a traditional bath (tub) renovation.
Whether motivated by the lack of time to actually sit and take a bath or an interest in lowering costs, swapping your a tub to shower conversion is the perfect solution. By remodeling your tub into a shower, you’ll open up a world of possibilities to customize your design. From tiles to shower benches, and a wide variety of hardware the options are endless.
With additional options to tailor your design, you can install storage which will make your bathroom more functional. Converting a tub to shower will also require less parts than a typical tub would. Fewer parts equals fewer chances for things to break. Using a shower, you will actually be using less water and therefore, your water bill will be lower too.
Below, find three examples of bath to shower renovations.

Tub to Shower Conversion Example #1:
Dated to Delightful
Before:
The bathroom had a neutral tile floor, out-of-date his and her vanity, and the step up was not a good use of the floor plan and layout. The dated green subway tile, the tub that the clients barely used and the shower not shown stood in a separate area off to the right were in desperate need of updating. Also, despite the amount of square footage in this bathroom there was inadequate storage.

After:
The bathroom was torn down to the studs and remodeled. The designer converted the tub area into a beautifully stunning walk-in shower and the shower area was converted into a vanity and makeup area. The client added recessed lights in the shower for improved lighting. A new his and hers vanity was installed with plenty of storage. The new shower features a rain head shower fixtures, a bench, and three niches for storage.

Tub to Shower Conversion Example #2: Outdated to Oasis
Before:
The client’s bathroom was cramped and outdated. The purple paint on the walls and old flooring made the space feel particularly small. The pink tub was decades old and too small to comfortably fit an adult. Our before photos are from mid-remodel, but you can still get a feel for the space.

After:
We tore down this bathroom and transformed the blank space into a modern oasis. Everything existing was removed and redone from the ground up; a new walk in shower, shower fixtures, new wall and floor tiles were installed. By keeping the bath’s original layout the homeowner avoided expensive plumbing repairs.
The finished results are stunning. With the installed ceramic black glossy wall tiles and satin brites ceramic black glossy floor tiles. The shower contains two Kohler master shower fixtures; one wall mounted, and one handheld.

Tub to Shower Conversion Example #3: Odd to Outstanding
Before:
This existing master bathroom had a neutral tile floor and an outdated sink with a very unique fixture. The space is small and felt cramped with the bath. There was also a moldy ring around the tub.

After:
We created a gorgeous modern, elegant bathroom for his client. A spacious shower lined with subway tile replaced the outdated tiles and mold. This shower also includes two Hansgrohe rain dance shower heads, one hand held and one wall mounted.
A modern bench and niche with Carrara marble tops gave this bathroom renovation functionality, as well as beauty. Basket weave Carrara tiles cover the shower floor, adding pattern and contrast to the subway tiles on the shower walls.

After:
Find here another gorgeous modern, elegant bathroom for his client.

You can convert your bath to a spacious shower and create more storage, more design and less costs. Use these three examples as inspiration for your bath to shower renovation.

Your bathroom doesn’t have to be large and spacious to have great style, function, and storage. Below you will see our nine favorite design options to give your bathroom storage and functionality no matter the size.
#1: Make It Work By Fitting It All In
This bathroom got creative in their small footprint. A standing shower may be tight up against the vanity, but it works. Also note the niche, interesting lighting fixture, and neutral color palette that makes this compact bathroom feel design forward.

#2: Put In Towel Rods and Hooks
Every bathroom needs towels, but many bathrooms don’t have storage for towels. If you want your space to be functional, a towel rod or hook is the way to go. Curling irons, hair dryers, jewelry, and towels are all common in the bathroom and all lend themselves to be hung. Whether you’re trying to show your goods or maximize efficiency and functionality, take advantage of your wall space to hang these items on a variety of ho

#3: Utilize Wall Space
The wall space in your bathroom is a prime real estate for storage. Every inch of storageis at a premium in your small bathroom.  Open shelving is not likely the first thing that comes to mind when designing your bathroom, but because of your limited space, your wall space is a realistic and trendy option. Go as high as you can with your wall shelf to take full advantage.

#4: Refresh The Space With Plants
A little bathroom can make you feel confined and claustrophobic, but adding in plants will breathe life back into your space. A few plants can add just the perfect amount of green to any room. Just be sure to get greenery that requires humidity and low light, so that it can thrive in your bathroom.

#5: Add Visuals Using Art
The bathroom is probably one of the last places you would think to place art. Nonetheless, many of us tend to forget that we have to spend a lot of time in it. Give yourself, family and guests something beautiful to look at while they use your newly renovated bathroom. If your bathroom is particularly small, you might prefer a simpler implementation of art. For example, featuring only a few secondary design features such as wall décor, soap dishes, and linens.

#6: Install a Wall to Wall Vanity
Bathroom vanities are not generally custom built for the space they are in, so this can result in a lot of unused space. If you have a small space, a wall to wall vanity will do the job nicely. A single vanity is adequate enough to fit a suitable sink and some functional storage. However, you can also maximize your space by installing a wall-mounted vanity to streamline your aesthetic.
However, if you still feel congested and you can accommodate a bigger vanity, then a double vanity is for you! Double vanities are perfect for performing your morning beauty regimens.
Before deciding which design option works best for you, consider all the items you would like to store so that the vanity you choose will have all the right components for your space.

#7: Take Advantage of Every Inch of Space
Take note of every empty space in your bathroom. Every inch of storage space is at a premium in a small bathroom. Odds are that there’s a piece of empty wall space or an opportunity for more storage waiting for you to customize. The best place to both customize and have storage is no doubt shower niches as a shower niche’s sole purpose is to just hold your stuff.

#8: Use The Space Next to the Toilet
The majority of bathrooms have a tiny sliver of space next to the toilet. Use that space to make room for a magazine rack, shelf or add some décor to your bathroom.

#9: Replace Your Mirror With a Medicine Cabinet
Mirrors are such a huge part of our daily routines. Most mirrors are too small and don’t offer any storage solutions for a small space. If this sounds familiar, you can substitute your mirror for a dual duty medicine cabinet.
We tend to take medicine cabinets for granted separate of their functional uses. However, they are great for storage and if you pair your medicine cabinet with an attention-grabbing mirror and chic lighting on top, you will add soft charm and practicality to your bathroom design.
Even in a small space, you can have a bathroom with style and storage. Use our list of ideas when adding storage to your space.

The 10 Most Popular Bathroom Design Trends of 2017

When selecting our most popular bathroom design trends of 2017, we have plenty to choose from. We’ve worked in hundreds of homes and buildings remodeling bathrooms and kitchens. This year we’ve seen designs from bold flooring to gorgeous accent walls and everything in between. Below, you’ll find our list of 10 most popular bathroom trends.

#10: Pendant Lights
Pendant lighting is common in kitchen designs, but new this year we’re seeing it in bathroom designs too. Adding pendant lighting to a bathroom design is a creative solution to a problem that actually comes down to aesthetics.

Pendant lighting or sconces can light your entire bathroom if the space is small enough. However, if your bathroom is larger, you’ll likely still require additional light sources such as mounted fixtures, recessed lights, track lighting, and ceiling fixtures.

#9: Built-in Lighting
This type of design has been very popular in 2017 with MyHome designers. The streamlined aesthetic offers effective face level lighting, which is ideal for grooming routines. Since it omits the need for pendant or sconces lighting altogether, it’s a favorite for New York City homeowners who like a clean look.

#8: Oversized Sinks
If you’re one of the lucky few who have a large bathroom, you might consider installing an oversized sink. The deeper sink and larger size will keep water from splashing on the countertops. Another good option is a double sink vanity, perfect for performing your morning beauty regimens.

#7: Efficient Storage
If your bathroom feels cramped and you need more storage, you can take advantage of a double vanity (a vanity with plenty of drawer space or built-in shelves to create storage in any small bathroom). Before determining which design option works best, consider all the things you want to store. Know this information you can choose the materials that have the right dimensions and offer a functional design for your space.
#6: Bold Flooring
If you’re looking to give your bathroom design a pop, try bold flooring. One trend that was big in 2017 was the classic black and white, checkered tile pattern. Checkered floors may seem retro, but they can also be contemporary, elegant or rustic. Another trend this year was faux wood floors in the bathroom as this option offers maximum stylishness without any worry of water damage.
#5: Accent Wall
The options for selecting your tiles for your bathroom can be overwhelming. Moreover, it can be expensive. One incredible way to blend in a more expensive tile tile is to use a box or two of pricier tiles as accents. One of the effective places to do this is in a shower stall. One option is a glass mosaic.

#3: Niches
A shower niche holds only one purpose and that is to hold your stuff  –because, let’s face it, no one wants to see all their products unorganized in the corner of the shower floor. A niche can capture your eye and gives your design a little flair. If you have an accent wall, it’s also an opening for you to repeat the tile or pattern to tie the design together.

#2: Subway Tile
If you browse home magazines, you are sure to find designs emphasizing subway tiles. Subway tiles have a long-standing reputation for being a tile choice that coordinates and matches with nearly every style. We don’t see this trend subsiding anytime soon. Subway tiles were extremely popular in 2017 and expect that waves to continue well into next year.
#1: Trendy
The most trendy bathroom designs of 2017 included:

bold fixtures,
accent walls,
adventurous floor designs,
natural hues,
marble
and so much more.

If you are a brazen lover of bright colors or are in love with bold flooring, your bathroom is the best place to take a risk in the name of style. The bathroom is a small enough space that bright and bold materials can be used without over-committing.

5 Things to Consider When Designing Your Bathroom Remodel

Remodeling your home is not an easy task even for seasoned pros, especially in New York City. Bathroom remodels normally cost a substantial amount for most homeworkers, but the good news is that it will last for years to come. Upgrading your bathroom will also boost the total value of your home.
For the best chance of making sure that your remodels are completed on time and within budget, MyHome has generated a list of things to consider. There are lots to know about the process of renovating your bathroom.

#1: Consider Your Materials and Costs
Before starting any major renovations, it’s important to consider your motivation such as how much you’re willing to spend, the expected return of investment you want, the quality of materials you’ll use, the size of your bathroom and whether you’re planning to do it yourself or hire a contractor.
Several issues influence the return of investment obtained from a bathroom remodel, but the most important influence is your inspiration for doing the remodel in the first place.
For instance, if you’re hoping to stay in your home for the long-term, then you’re remodeling for personal use. Then the return on investment you will receive will not be financial, but rather emotional as it will enrich your lifestyle. For this kind of return investment, you ought to spend money on materials you love and appreciate such as a new shower with rainfall and massaging showerheads or a freestanding tub.

#2: Consider Building a Shower
You shouldn’t be afraid to indulge on a beautiful shower. If you don’t have space or if you’re not a fan of taking baths, replace the tub with a perfect walk-in shower. In bathrooms that are narrow or have a low ceiling, simply removing your bulky bathtubwill allow you space to feel open and beautiful.
Additionally, opting for a design with a frameless glass door will allow your bathroom to appear brighter and larger as you will be removing visual interruption. This is ideal for bathrooms that don’t have any natural light.
You may also want to opt for a fantastic shower head as this will make the difference between a decent shower and a great one. Converting your tub to a shower would also be cost-effective because you wouldn’t have to reroute the plumbing.

#3: Consider Beautiful Surfaces
One exciting step for remodeling your bathroom is selecting gorgeous surface materials. Vanity countertops, hardware, wall tiles, and floor tiles can all have an enormous effect on the overall look of your bathroom.
The simplest way to make a statement is to choose either a statement vanity or wall or floor tile. A statement vanity will create an attention-grabbing and unique contrast to your bathrooms overall design. Whereas, bold tile will make an all-white bathroom feel less sterile and more modern.
Indulge on beautiful surfaces such as Calacatta marble or with a splash of stylish color. Picking the right surfaces for your bathroom can make any space feel luxuriously designed.

#4: Consider the Perfect Toilet
Picking the perfect toilet for your project is likely not the first thing on your mind, but choosing an appropriate toilet is just as important as any other element in your remodel. Resist the temptation to cut corners in this department. This will help avoid regrets and extra expenses down the line.
The commonplace choice is a two-piece toilet which has a separate tank and seat. Although the tank and seat are made to fit together, they will have a seam. Down the road, the seam can become a difficult spot for cleaning. Nevertheless, two-piece toilets are cost-effective, as well as simpler to transport and install.
Alternatively, one piece toilets tend to be more lavish and expensive.  Similarly prices, styles, and quality vary. One-piece toilets are seamless and provide a contemporary sophisticated look with one less place for germs to hide.

#5: Consider Upgrading Your Bathroom Lighting
Lighting always sets the mood for any space, particularly in the bathroom. When you are designing your bathroom lighting, you will have many options.  As you’re shopping, you will find size, layout, style, and pricing vary.
The two most common light sources are either a sconce or a mounted fixture.  However, you have many styles to choose from such as over the mirror lighting, ceiling lights, or hanging lamps. The options the endless, but will all add a new ambiance to your bathroom!

When remodeling your bathroom, you can stay on time and budget, while making a beautiful space. Use our list of things to consider when renovating your bathroom.
